On August 6,1892, Rev. Jacob and Hannah Hinshaw founded the Okoboji Monthly Meeting of Friends, meeting in the Okoboji school house, as an organizational meeting by a committee of Greenville Quarterly Meeting. They met in Spencer for the first 3 years. On November 7, 1895 the building committee reported that the new Church was complete and also paid for; the cost being something over one thousand dollars. In February of 1899 a committee was appointed to build a parsonage. Lumber was purchased for $313.00 in March of that year, and in August a tract of land was purchased where the present Church is today. The statistical record of 1904 showed 84 members, down 27 from the previous year. May 5, 1910 was the first mention of changing the name from Okoboji to Arnolds Park as Arnolds Park had become incorporated in 1897. As the years go by we have gained and lost but the spirit of the Church still exists as a Bible believing Church dedicated to the work of the Lord.
In October of 2005 Pastor Jerry and Vicky Mercer were called to serve the meeting. Many changes are being made as we restart the Church. A nursery was added for the convenience of families with young children under the age of 4, a drop ceiling was put in the fellowship room downstairs, new cupboards and a dishwasher were added to the kitchen, and banners are alternated outside to display events and activities of the church and community.
New activities added include: family night on the 4th Sunday of the month, Bible 101 class which meets in the parsonage on Sunday morning at the same time as the other classes are meeting in the Church, a second Sunday School class for the children, sponsor of a T-BallTeam for the summer, the first annual fourth of July celebration called Liberty Fest. Children may be picked up for Sunday School by calling Marvis Smith at 338-4318 or Pastor Jerry at 332-2255.
